Funding Advisory
Build the funding strategy before the project is locked in.
Belmark helps Canadian manufacturers coordinate grants, SR&ED, tax credits and financing around a defined investment, before commitments and project decisions narrow the options.
The central problem
Finding a program is only the beginning.
A single investment may involve several sources of funding, each with different eligibility rules, timelines, and documentation requirements. The opportunity is not simply to identify what may apply. It is to structure the project, costs, commitments, and evidence so the available options can be assessed together.
One investment can involve several forms of funding.
Select programs are shown below as examples of the funding sources that may be considered around an investment.
Government grants
Application-based funding for expansion, productivity, technology adoption, commercialization, workforce development and market growth.
May includeFedDev Ontario, OCI DMAP, OCI TDP, CanExport and tariff-response funding.
Research and innovation incentives
SR&ED, the Ontario Innovation Tax Credit, NRC IRAP and related programs may support eligible research and experimental development. The evidence is created while the work is happening.
May includeSR&ED, OITC, NRC IRAP and related programs.
Capital investment tax credits
The Ontario Made Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, the Clean Technology Manufacturing ITC and related incentives may support eligible buildings, machinery, equipment and project costs.
May includeOMMITC and Clean Technology Manufacturing ITCs.
Financing and other incentives
Equipment financing, working-capital facilities, IESO energy-efficiency incentives and export support can help complete the capital structure around an investment.
May includeIESO incentives and financing options.
Programs open, change and close over time. Eligibility and funding outcomes depend on the applicant, project, timing, costs and applicable program rules.
Why timing matters
The same investment can produce different funding outcomes.
Some programs must be considered before specified commitments are made. Others are claimed later but depend on classifications, records and decisions established during the project. The relevant trigger varies by program: a quote, purchase order, deposit, contract or project start date may affect the options available.
The Funding Assessment
Start with a Funding Assessment.
A focused review of the proposed investment, the funding options that may apply and the decisions that should be resolved before the project moves forward.
Best suited to manufacturers planning equipment purchases, facility investments, product or process development, technology adoption, expansion or export growth.
The assessment may include
- A review of the investment and business objectives
- A project-specific map of grants, tax credits, incentives, and financing
- Key eligibility questions and information gaps
- Important application, commitment, and documentation dates
- Recommended next steps, responsibilities, and sequencing
